Hotel Memmo Príncipe Real
Hospitality
Lisbon, PT - 2011
2800 m2
Completed
The Memmo Príncipe Real Hotel project, in Lisbon, is inserted into the hillside, between Príncipe Real and Avenida da Liberdade, accessing the place through a narrow passage, existing in one of the buildings located on the north side of Rua D. Pedro V.
The project occupies the space of an old warehouse, building a new volume with lower height and implantation area. The Hotel's public space is designed as a viewpoint, clear, over the Avenida da Liberdade valley, and an extension of the public outdoor space, creating a feeling of spaciousness, where the “inside” and “outside” converge. On this floor, the closed spaces, such as the reception and offices, the sanitary facilities and the service spaces are contained in volumes, organic, in wood, strategically located, which guarantee the independence of each of the different spaces. The play of "full" and "empty" generates a fluid space that contributes to reinforce the spatial continuity with the outside.
Above this access floor, there is a two floors volume where most of the rooms are located. Below it is located another floor of bedrooms, which builds a terrace that makes reference to the terraced structure in the hills of Lisbon and that of the Garden of São Pedro de Alcântara, located further east.
The project included interior design and decoration carried out in close collaboration with Memmo. Pieces of furniture specifically for this hotel were designed, such as bedroom furniture, dining tables, counters, sofas ... but also the design and detailed detailing of handles, bathroom accessories, washbasins ... In short, it is about of a overall project, where not only architecture was contemplated, but also all interiors and decoration.
